Surrey, B.C. – Charges have been approved against a man following a disturbing incident in Surrey’s City Centre on February 26, 2025, where he allegedly threatened bystanders with a weapon.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) Frontline officers responded to multiple reports of a man wielding a weapon and threatening people. When officers arrived at the scene, they attempted to take the suspect into custody, but he refused to comply with police orders to drop the weapon. To safely subdue the suspect, officers deployed a less-lethal impact weapon, ultimately gaining control of the situation and arresting him without further incident.
“The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Gajinder Shokeen, who now faces the following charges:
• Resisting or obstructing peace officers in the lawful execution of their duty.
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.” SPS says in a press release.
Shokeen has been remanded in custody as he awaits a court date.
