IHIT Investigating Fatal Surrey Shooting After Driver Found Dead in Crashed Vehicle

Surrey, BC- The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in Surrey early Sunday morning.

At approximately 12:22 a.m. on May 31, 2026, officers with the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to reports of a shooting near 138 Street and 62 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a man inside a vehicle that had collided with a power pole.

Police found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately provided medical assistance until paramedics from BC Emergency Health Services arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made, and investigators have not released any suspect information at this stage of the investigation.

IHIT has assumed conduct of the case and is working alongside Surrey Police Service officers to carry out priority investigative tasks and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
