Ottawa- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged a decisive response Tuesday if U.S. President Donald Trump follows through on threats to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian imports. Trump suggested the tariffs could take effect as early as February 1.

“Canada will respond, and everything is on the table,” Trudeau said during a news conference. He emphasized that Ottawa’s countermeasures would be “robust, rapid, and measured,” vowing to match U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar.

The tariffs are part of Trump’s broader push to tighten borders with Canada and Mexico, aiming to address migration and combat illicit drug trafficking.

With approximately 75% of Canada’s exports destined for the U.S., including key energy and automotive goods, the proposed tariffs could have significant economic repercussions. Trudeau’s remarks set the stage for escalating trade tensions between the two countries.
