Vancouver – Canada Post has declined a request from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) to delay a potential strike, maintaining pressure on the union to accept its latest contract offer ahead of planned job action scheduled for Friday.
CUPW had requested a two-week pause to review the new proposal, but Canada Post refused, urging union leadership to make a prompt decision. The latest offer includes a 13.59 percent wage increase spread over four years—six percent in the first year, three percent in the second, and two percent in each of the final two years.
The proposal also features six personal days added to the collective agreement and improved income replacement benefits for workers on short-term disability.
Strike notices issued by CUPW indicate that strike activity may begin at 12:00 a.m. local time on Friday, May 23, if no agreement is reached. Canada Post confirmed that operations are continuing as usual for now.
