Ottawa- The Government of Canada has announced that no new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will be accepted in 2026. New Ministerial Instructions for the 2026 calendar year will take effect on January 1, 2026.

Under these instructions, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue processing applications submitted during the 2025 intake. Up to 10,000 complete applications from the 2025 intake will be accepted into processing in 2026.

However, starting January 1, 2026, IRCC will not receive or process any new permanent resident visa applications for parents or grandparents, nor any new sponsorship applications related to them, until further Ministerial Instructions are issued.

The federal government clarified that these instructions are being implemented for administrative purposes and do not affect applications already submitted under previous intakes.

IRCC has stated that details about the next intake of the Parents and Grandparents Program will be announced once they become available.
