TARN TARAN, – Punjab will witness another by-election following the untimely demise of Tarn Taran MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, who passed away at Escorts Hospital in Amritsar early Friday morning after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 65.

Dr. Sohal is survived by his wife Navjot Kaur Hundal, a son and a daughter, both serving in the medical field.

He had been admitted to the hospital late Thursday night due to cancer-related complications. He breathed his last around 12:30 AM on Friday.

Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, a renowned medical professional, was also the founding state president of the PCMS Specialists Doctors Association, a position he held for over a decade before entering politics.

Though denied an AAP ticket in the 2017 Assembly polls, he remained committed to the party and successfully contested the 2022 elections from Tarn Taran, defeating Harmit Singh Sandhu (SAD) and Dr. Dharamveer Agnihotri (Congress).

His passing comes shortly after the Ludhiana West by-election, marking another political vacuum in the state.

Expressing grief, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute on social media platform X:

“Very sad to hear. Dr Saheb was a hardworking and struggling leader of the party. Heartfelt sympathies to his family in this sad time. May God grant peace to the departed soul and give patience and courage to the family and loved ones in this difficult time.”
