Tarn Taran, Punjab – Khadoor Sahib Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura and seven others have been convicted by a Tarn Taran court in connection with a 2013 case of molestation and assault involving a Dalit girl during a wedding in village Usman.
Following the court’s verdict on Tuesday, Lalpura was taken into judicial custody. The court has set September 12 as the date to pronounce the sentence.
The case, which had been pending for over a decade, has stirred political tensions in Punjab. Opposition parties are demanding AAP clarify its position on Lalpura’s future within the party.
Local activists have hailed the conviction as a victory for justice in a case that drew criticism for delays and alleged political interference. AAP leadership has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
