Toronto: Thé York Régional Police have sought public help to seek information about 39-year-old suspect, who is wanted for a carjacking in the Town of Newmarket.
The police said on Saturday at approximately 6:30 pm, the officers responded to a carjacking at a gas station, in the area of Mulock Drive East and Harry Walker Parkway. “The victim was pumping gas when a male suspect approached and entered her vehicle. As he attempted to drive away, a good Samaritan pulled in front of the victim’s vehicle to block in the suspect. However, the suspect was able to flee by reversing, nearly ripping off the door of the victim’s vehicle. No one was injured,” the police said.
The suspect has been identified as Giani Zail Sing Sidhu, who has been charged with Robbery, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Failure to Stop After Accident x2, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
It was learned the suspect had just been released following a bail hearing on unrelated charges from police custody in #1 District, prior to the carjacking.
The police said, “Later that evening, at approximately 9 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a fail to remain collision in the intersection of Mayfield Road and Bramalea Road, in the Town of Caledon. One of the vehicles involved was the same vehicle that was carjacked in Newmarket earlier that day. The suspect fled on foot. Despite the use of a drone and their Canine Unit, police were unable to locate the suspect. A warrant for his arrest has been issued.”
