Gravesend, UK – A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shocking incident at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara on Saddington Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 PM on Thursday, July 11, when an individual entered the temple wielding a sword or knife. The suspect reportedly began slashing and stabbing people inside the Gurdwara.
A spokesman stated: “Kent Police was called at 8:10 PM on Thursday, July 11 to a report of a disturbance at a Gurdwara on Saddington Street in Gravesend. An individual entered Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend, UK, picked up a sword or knife and began to slash and stab people inside.”
Two women sustained injuries during the attack. Fortunately, their injuries are not considered life-threatening, and they are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Armed police quickly responded to the scene. Video footage captured the dramatic moment officers grappled with a man on the floor, who appeared to have blood on his face and was being restrained by several officers.
The teenager remains in custody as investigations continue into the motive behind the attack. The local community is understandably shaken by the incident, and additional security measures are being considered to ensure the safety of worshippers.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with their inquiries.
