Abbotsford, BC — Quick thinking by a vigilant community member has led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of more than 20 stolen catalytic converters in Abbotsford.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, officers responded to a report on Wednesday in the Whatcom Road and Highway 1 area after a caller noticed suspicious activity that “didn’t feel right.” The individual reported seeing a man allegedly cutting catalytic converters from vehicles.

Police arrived on scene within six minutes, quickly located the suspect, and made an arrest without incident. During the investigation, officers recovered over 20 catalytic converters believed to be stolen.

Authorities confirmed that criminal charges are being pursued, and the suspect’s vehicle has been seized as offence-related property.

Police credited the alert resident for helping bring the situation to a swift resolution.

“This is a great example of how community awareness and timely reporting can make a real difference,” AbbyPD said in a statement.

Catalytic converter thefts have been a growing concern across the region due to the valuable metals inside the devices. Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity immediately.

Anyone with information related to similar incidents is urged to contact Abbotsford Police.
