Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has recognized Moti Johal for his extraordinary bravery after he rescued a young child from oncoming traffic in Surrey last month.
During a special recognition at SPS headquarters, officers honoured Johal for his courageous actions on July 23, when a young deaf autistic child ran into oncoming traffic near Highway 10.
According to SPS, Johal acted without hesitation, rushing into the roadway to bring the child to safety and preventing what could have been a tragic incident.
“We were honoured to welcome Moti Johal to SPS headquarters and recognize his extraordinary bravery,” the police service said. “Moti didn’t hesitate—he rushed to help, bringing the child to safety and preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.”
Surrey Police Service thanked Johal for his courage, quick thinking, and willingness to help in a critical moment, describing his actions as an outstanding example of selflessness and community spirit.
The recognition highlights the vital role everyday citizens can play in protecting others during emergencies.
