Surrey – An investigation by Surrey RCMP’s Special Victim’s Unit has resulted in charges being approved in a sexual assault case that began in July 2024. The incident, which has drawn significant attention, occurred on July 20, 2024, in the early hours of the morning. At approximately 3:15 am, Surrey RCMP officers responded to a report of an alleged stranger sexual assault in the 14100-block of 91 Avenue. According to the victim, she was awakened by a man groping her inside her residence. Startled, she screamed for help, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.
Following a detailed investigation, charges have been laid against 24-year-old Jatinder Singh of Surrey. On August 16, 2024, Singh was formally charged with Break and Enter and Sexual Assault. The charges came after Surrey RCMP’s Special Victim’s Unit gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. Singh was arrested on the same day and was subsequently brought before the courts.
Upon his court appearance, Jatinder Singh was released on several strict conditions aimed at protecting the victim and the public. These conditions include prohibiting Singh from having any contact or communication, directly or indirectly, with the victim. He is also barred from going within 50 meters of the victim’s residence, workplace, school, place of worship, or any location where she might be present. Additionally, Singh is prohibited from being within 50 meters of the location where the offence occurred. He is also forbidden from possessing any weapon, as defined by the Criminal Code, and is specifically prohibited from possessing any knives.
In a statement, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Tammy Lobb, emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and the need for public assistance. “We are releasing a photo of Jatinder Singh as investigators believe there may be more people in our community who have additional information that could assist with advancing the investigation,” said Sgt. Lobb. She encouraged anyone with information to contact the Surrey RCMP Special Victim’s Unit at 604-599-0502.
The Surrey RCMP continues to urge anyone who may have knowledge related to this case to come forward and contribute to the investigation.
