Mayor Brenda Locke says upgrades will cut energy use, reduce emissions and save taxpayers about $60,000 annually
SURREY, B.C. — The City of Surrey has received a $655,247 rebate from FortisBC in recognition of five completed energy-efficiency projects across civic facilities, helping advance the city’s sustainability goals while reducing operating costs.
Mayor Brenda Locke thanked FortisBC for the funding and praised City staff for their efforts in improving the efficiency of municipal buildings.
“Thank you to FortisBC for presenting the City of Surrey with a $655,247 rebate recognizing five completed energy-efficiency projects across our civic facilities,” said Locke.
She added that the projects are expected to reduce the City’s overall energy consumption by approximately 6 per cent, lower greenhouse gas emissions by about 12 per cent, and generate approximately $60,000 in annual utility savings.
“I’m proud of the innovative work City staff have done to improve the efficiency of our facilities. Partnerships like this help us build a more sustainable Surrey while making the most of taxpayer dollars,” Locke said.
The rebate recognizes Surrey’s investment in energy-saving upgrades that improve the performance of civic facilities while supporting environmental sustainability and long-term financial savings for residents.
