Surrey, BC – The Surrey RCMP Community Response Unit is investigating a series of door knock pranks that have resulted in property damage across multiple residences in Newton and South Surrey. The pranks, known as “nicky nicky nine doors” or “ding door ditch,” have escalated from innocent fun to cases of harassment and mischief, spurred by social media trends.
An ongoing investigation has led to the identification of several teenage “pranksters,” with police now seeking potential criminal charges. The Surrey RCMP urges parents to discuss the serious repercussions of such activities with their teens.
“While this type of behaviour may not have started with malicious intent, the observed behavior of these individuals speaks to a complete lack of regard for the ‘prank’ recipients and their property,” said Sgt. James Mason, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer. “If the goal is to make yourself known, you may get more than you bargained for.”
**Safety Tips from Surrey RCMP:**
– **Report Incidents:** If you observe this type of behaviour or become a victim, call the Surrey RCMP non-emergency line immediately.
– **Stay Indoors:** If you are a victim, remain indoors and do not confront the suspects involved.
– **Use Surveillance:** Video surveillance can assist police in identifying suspects and support court evidence.
– **Lighting:** A well-lit entranceway and front door may deter this type of behaviour.
