Surrey, BC – Surrey Police Service’s Gang Crime Unit (SPS-GCU) seized a modified firearm and a loaded magazine following a late-night traffic stop in East Newton on January 16, 2025.

At approximately 11:00 PM, officers conducting proactive patrols observed a vehicle driving erratically near 140th Street and 78th Avenue. During the traffic stop, police discovered two knives, a loaded .22-calibre magazine, and an unloaded .22-calibre rifle that had been significantly altered to resemble a handgun.

The vehicle’s driver and passenger, both known to police, were arrested at the scene. They have since been released on an undertaking pending further investigation and potential criminal charges by the BC Prosecution Service.

The seized firearm and ammunition will undergo forensic testing as part of the investigation. SPS emphasized its ongoing commitment to tackling gang-related crime and ensuring community safety.
