Surrey,BC- Surrey Police Service (SPS) is urging drivers to stay focused on the road after issuing 1,811 tickets for distracted driving in 2025, specifically for the use of electronic devices behind the wheel.
In a message shared on social media, SPS reminded motorists of the serious consequences of distracted driving, stating, “Pay attention to the road or pay for it. Leave your phone alone.”
The base fine for using an electronic device while driving is $368, along with four driver penalty points. Authorities caution that penalties can increase depending on a driver’s history, potentially leading to higher fines and additional consequences.
Police emphasize that distracted driving remains a major safety concern and are calling on all drivers to prioritize road safety by keeping their attention where it belongs—on the road.
