SURREY, B.C. – Surrey Police Service has arrested an adult man and seized a firearm, ammunition and three knives following an early morning incident in South Surrey on August 2.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., SPS Frontline officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a driver slumped over inside a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road near the intersection of 18 Avenue and 138 Street.
When officers arrived, they boxed the vehicle in with police cruisers to prevent it from driving away. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat despite repeated commands from officers.
Concerned the man required medical assistance, officers attempted to take him into custody. At that point, the driver regained consciousness and attempted to start the vehicle and flee, but was unable to do so because police vehicles had blocked his escape.
Officers safely arrested the suspect without injury. During the arrest, police located and seized an unloaded firearm, ammunition and three knives from inside the vehicle.
The adult male remains in SPS custody. Charges have not yet been sworn, and the investigation remains ongoing.
