Surrey, BC — Registration for the City of Surrey’s preschool and group child-care programs opens on February 3 and runs through February 5, offering families access to licensed, play-based child-care options for children aged three to five.
The programs operate from September to June at recreation facilities across the city and feature flexible schedules designed to support working families. Through a provincial partnership, some spaces are available for as little as $10 per day, making child care more affordable for Surrey families.
“We know how hard it is for families to find affordable child care,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “Thanks to this provincial partnership, more families can access preschool and get the care they need without delay.”
Provincial funding under the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement currently supports $10-a-day programs at Cloverdale Mini Recreation Centre and Fraser Heights Recreation Centre. The City of Surrey has nine additional applications in progress to expand the program to more City-operated preschool facilities.
City preschool programs are delivered by qualified early childhood educators and follow the B.C. Early Learning Framework, with a focus on learning through play and helping children transition smoothly into kindergarten.
