Surrey,BC – The City of Surrey faces an annual cost of approximately $750,000 due to illegal dumping, funds which could be better allocated to community amenities and services. In 2023 alone, 7,570 illegal dumping sites were recorded. To address this issue, the City is intensifying its efforts with two-week Clean-Up Blitzes and enhancing patrols and enforcement. Residents are encouraged to utilize the Free Waste Drop-off Program and the Large Item Pickup Program.
“Illegal dumping is not only costly, but also harmful to our environment and our community’s well-being,” stated Mayor Brenda Locke. “By taking advantage of our free disposal services and reporting illegal dumping, we can work together to reduce the financial burden on our city and create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Let’s all do our part and rethink waste – for a cleaner, greener Surrey.”
