Surrey, BC – In a move to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors, the Surrey City Council has approved a comprehensive bylaw enforcement plan for the Crescent Beach and Blackie Spit area during the summer months. The plan addresses non-permissible activities and behaviors related to parking, unpermitted alcohol, animal control, and fire safety.

“As we head into the heart of summer, I want to assure our residents and visitors that we are committed to making sure everyone can enjoy Crescent Beach,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “We’re implementing enhanced bylaw patrols over extended hours, installing more signs to remind people of the rules, and there will be a coordinated effort with our emergency services partners. We urge everyone to respect the rules and regulations in place. By working together, we can ensure a fun and safe summer for all along our Surrey waterfront.”

Under the direction of the Council, the Corporate Services, Fire Services, Engineering, and Parks, Recreation & Culture Departments have collaborated to enhance bylaw enforcement and communication efforts. The plan includes:

*Increased patrols after dark: Bylaw Services staff will use bikes, foot patrols, ATVs, and vehicles.
*Designated patrol zones: Covering parking lots, beachfronts, Crescent Beach promenade, trails, and environmentally protected areas within Blackie Spit Park.
*Informational signage: Installation throughout Crescent Beach to reinforce regulations and encourage responsible behavior.
*Changes to parking signage: Improvements for road safety sightlines, encouragement for visitors to park in designated lots, and provision of safe pathways for pedestrians.

The City’s Bylaw Services staff will work closely with the Surrey RCMP, BNSF Rail Police, and Surrey Fire Services to ensure a coordinated response to enforcement and emergency situations.
