Surrey – On Monday, City Council approved a pre-construction and design services contract for the new Newton Community Centre, a major facility set to become a vibrant and inclusive hub in the heart of Newton.
Mayor Brenda Locke said the project marks the largest capital investment in the city’s history. She highlighted that the centre will bring recreation, cultural, and library services together under one roof, creating a welcoming space that reflects the diversity and needs of the community.
Following a competitive selection process involving three shortlisted teams, Ventana Construction Corp. was awarded the contract based on its experience, technical approach, and financial proposal. The pre-construction contract is valued at $9.1 million.
The planned 175,000-square-foot facility will feature a 50-metre lap pool, leisure pool, hot tub, sauna, two gymnasiums, a fitness centre, multi-purpose and arts spaces, child-care facilities, and a new 40,000-square-foot library—more than double the size of the current Newton branch.
Located along King George Boulevard next to the Newton Seniors Centre, the $310.6-million project is part of the city’s long-term vision to revitalize Newton Town Centre. Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2030.
