Vancouver- The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have successfully thwarted two major drug smuggling attempts, seizing a combined 24.84 kg of methamphetamine at Vancouver International Airport in July 2024. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $1.25 million.
In two separate incidents:
July 27, 2024: CBSA Border Services Officers, with assistance from the Detector Dog Service, intercepted 10 kg of methamphetamine concealed in false-sided compartments of two suitcases. The drugs were being smuggled by a Canadian citizen en route to Sydney, Australia.
July 29, 2024: CBSA officers uncovered an additional 14.84 kg of methamphetamine during an examination of another Canadian citizen’s suitcase. The methamphetamine was hidden in four vacuum-sealed packages wrapped in clothing.
Both individuals were immediately arrested and are now in custody under the RCMP’s Federal Serious and Organized Crime (FSOC) unit. The RCMP FSOC is continuing to investigate, with multiple criminal charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act expected.
