SURREY, B.C. — Conservative MLA for Surrey North Mandeep Dhaliwal has voiced his support for British Columbia’s nurses, saying frontline healthcare workers deserve safe workplaces, better staffing, and the support they need to provide quality care to patients.
“Yesterday I was present at the BC Nurses’ rally to listen to their concerns and stand with them,” said Dhaliwal.
The rally highlighted nurses’ ongoing concerns over safe nurse-to-patient ratios, chronic staffing shortages, workplace violence, nurse retention, wages and benefits, and the need for safer working conditions across the province.
“I believe our nurses deserve to work in safe, supportive environments that allow them to provide the best possible care to patients. Supporting those on the front lines means supporting a stronger healthcare system for families and communities across British Columbia,” Dhaliwal said.
His comments come as labour negotiations between the BC Nurses’ Union and the provincial government continue. The union says the appointment of special mediators to assist with negotiations will only be meaningful if it results in significant progress on the issues that have driven thousands of nurses across British Columbia to take job action.
The BC Nurses’ Union maintains that meaningful action on staffing, workplace safety, and compensation is essential to retaining nurses, improving patient care, and strengthening the province’s healthcare system.
