VANCOUVER, November 3, 2026: The Government of India has announced a one-time waiver of the USD $25 penalty imposed on Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders for delays in updating passport details on the e-OCI portal.

According to a public notice issued by the Consulate General of India in Vancouver on November 3, the waiver will apply to fresh applications for passport detail updates submitted through the e-OCI portal between November 1 and December 31, 2026, inclusive.

The notice also clarifies that OCI cardholders whose personal details have changed, including their name, nationality, parents’ names or spouse’s name, must submit a separate application under the category of “Updation of Personal Particulars.”

The Consulate has further clarified that OCI cardholders will not face any travel restrictions while their applications for updating passport details are being processed.

However, applicants are advised to carry their old and new passports, along with their OCI cards, when travelling to or from India during the processing period.

The temporary waiver provides OCI cardholders with an opportunity to update their passport details without paying the prescribed late fee during the two-month period.
