Surrey,BC- Former Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum has unveiled the latest candidates for the Safe Surrey Coalition ahead of Surrey’s municipal election on October 17, introducing a team that includes experienced former councillors, community leaders, and respected professionals.
Joining the Safe Surrey Coalition are former Surrey City Councillors Laurie Guerra and Allison Patton, public administration professional Suhana Gill, community leader Meera Gill, and award-winning former Surrey Now-Leader editor Beau Simpson. They join incumbent Councillors Mandeep Nagra and Doug Elford, whose candidacies were announced earlier this year.
Among the newly announced candidates, Meera Gill brings nearly 30 years of public service and more than three decades of volunteer work in Surrey. Widely recognized for her community involvement, Gill has dedicated much of her career to supporting local residents through charitable initiatives and grassroots leadership.
As the Founding President of the Our Global Village Charitable Foundation, Gill has led programs benefiting seniors, children, youth, women, and vulnerable members of the community. Her work has focused on improving access to community resources, promoting inclusion, and strengthening support networks for families across Surrey.
Gill said her decision to run for Surrey City Council is driven by a desire to continue serving the community at the municipal level. Running under the Safe Surrey Coalition banner, she says her priorities include building safer neighbourhoods, supporting local businesses, improving parks and public spaces, and ensuring responsible and accountable leadership at City Hall.
