Surrey, B.C. — David Eby, leader of the B.C. NDP, announced a key policy shift today during his campaign stop in Surrey, focusing on the needs of pet owners across the province. The NDP vowed to remove the ‘no-pets’ clause in purpose-built rental buildings, addressing what Eby called “unfair discrimination” against tenants with pets.
“Having a home should mean being able to include your beloved pets,” Eby stated. He emphasized that many renters, including young people, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, are forced to choose between keeping their pets and securing housing due to restrictive rental agreements.
The NDP’s proposed policy aims to ensure that landlords cannot deny housing to tenants with pets, allowing owners and pets to stay together in a more inclusive rental market.
