Surrey- A fourth person has been arrested and charged with the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year, Canadian police said on Saturday, in a case that strained diplomatic relations with India.
Canadian police earlier this month arrested and charged three Indian nationals in the city of Edmonton in Alberta and said they were probing whether the men had ties to the Indian government.
The province’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a release Saturday that 22-year-old Amandeep Singh was already in the custody of Peel Regional Police in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges.
Investigators are not releasing further detail due to ongoing investigations and court processes.
Earlier this month, authorities apprehended three Indian citizens, namely Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, in Edmonton. They were charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the killing of Nijjar. Nijjar was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Sikh temple in Surrey, B.C., where he served as president.
