Markham, ON – Honda Canada has announced a voluntary recall affecting approximately 17,000 Honda and Acura vehicles due to a software issue in the Fuel Injection Electronic Control Unit (FI-ECU).

According to a recent release by Honda Canada, improper programming of the FI-ECU may cause sudden throttle changes, illuminating the check engine light and potentially leading to a loss of drive power, hesitation, or engine stalling. This increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Affected Models

Honda:

•   2023-2025 Honda Pilot

Acura:

•   2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S

•   2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S

Registered owners of these vehicles will receive notification by mail in February and will be asked to bring their vehicles to an authorized Honda or Acura dealership for a free FI-ECU software update.

While Honda Canada has not received any confirmed reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue, the company is urging affected owners to schedule the update as soon as they receive notification.
