Surrey – The City of Surrey has finalized lease agreements for its first two community medical clinics, a move aimed at improving access to family doctors and primary care for local residents.
Mayor Brenda Locke said the clinics represent an important step toward ensuring more residents can receive consistent medical care.
“These first two clinics are a concrete step toward making sure more Surrey residents can see a family doctor when they need one,” Locke said. “Too many people in our city don’t have reliable access to primary care. These clinics will help connect families and individuals with physicians they can rely on for the long term.”
City council approved five-year lease agreements for clinical spaces in City Centre and Newton, which will be operated by Total Life Care Granville Medical Inc. (TLC) under a partnership model endorsed by council earlier this year.
The City Centre clinic will be located at #210, 10362 King George Boulevard, in a 2,000-square-foot unit alongside a public health unit operated by Fraser Health Authority and other health-care providers.
The Newton clinic will be located at 12757 76 Avenue, in a newly built 2,900-square-foot commercial space.
Once operational, each clinic is expected to accommodate approximately 10 physicians, helping expand access to family doctors for residents across the rapidly growing city.
“Our goal is to have the clinics ready to begin seeing patients as soon as possible,” said Joey Brar, the City’s General Manager of Corporate Services.
The clinics are anticipated to open this fall, subject to construction timelines and regulatory approvals.
