Surrey, BC – May 16, 2025 – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has officially released its 2024 Report to the Community, offering a comprehensive look at its progress, performance, and priorities in its first full year as the police of jurisdiction for the City of Surrey.
Taking over policing duties in November 2024, the SPS now leads law enforcement in one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most diverse cities. The report outlines key statistics from the past year, including calls for service, staffing levels, hiring numbers, and crime trends, while also detailing the continued transition from the RCMP and SPS’s rapid expansion.
“Becoming Surrey’s police of jurisdiction represents a culmination of the tremendous work and effort of SPS staff and our community partners,” said Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “Much of that work is reflected in our 2024 Report to the Community. We are also planning for the future, aligned with the eight priorities identified in last year’s community consultation.”
The eight community-identified priorities continue to shape the SPS’s strategic planning and operational focus, ensuring alignment with the needs and expectations of Surrey residents.
In addition to operational data, the report includes a financial summary covering both operational and capital expenditures, reinforcing the SPS’s commitment to transparent fiscal management.
Harley Chappell, Chair of the Surrey Police Board, emphasized the Board’s role in maintaining accountability and public trust. “We recognize the significance of our role in understanding community priorities, establishing a policing budget, and monitoring SPS performance,” said Chappell. “Transparency remains a core value as we make decisions that directly impact policing and public interest in Surrey.”
The release of the 2024 Report to the Community marks a significant milestone for the SPS as it continues to build a modern, responsive, and community-focused police service in Surrey.
