Ottawa — Prime Minister Mark Carney says Parliament must move quickly to deliver results for Canadians, following a meeting with Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre.
In a statement released after the meeting, Carney emphasized the urgency of cooperation in the House of Commons as the new federal government advances its legislative agenda.
“Canada’s new government is moving fast — and we need Parliament to move swiftly to deliver for Canadians,” Carney said.
The prime minister noted that the government has already introduced legislation aimed at strengthening bail and sentencing laws, boosting the Canadian economy, cutting costs for the middle class, and protecting Canadian workers.
According to Carney, the coming weeks will be critical as Parliament debates and votes on measures he says Canadians are counting on.
“This is an important time to be working together, and to pass the legislation Canadians are counting on,” he said.
The meeting with Poilievre comes amid heightened expectations for cross-party cooperation as the government seeks to implement key policy priorities early in its mandate.
