
British Columbia’s Police watchdog is investigating a shooting incident in Surrey .
Information provided by the RCMP states that on the evening of March 17, 2024, officers with the Surrey Police Service were walking outdoors at Guildford Town Centre near 152 Street and 104 Avenue when they encountered one man reportedly holding a weapon.
Police attempted to stop the man and there was an interaction, leading to one officer discharging their firearm and striking the man.
The affected person was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it happened and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details leading up to and including the interaction with police, as well as whether any force used was necessary, proportionate, and justified under the circumstances.
