Abbotsford, B.C. – An overnight police incident following a reported shooting led to a standoff and the deployment of a tactical team in a residential neighbourhood of Abbotsford.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers responded at approximately 8:00 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 33500 block of Cannon Avenue in Abbotsford. Officers quickly identified a residence known to police that is believed to be connected to the incident.
When officers attempted to evacuate the home, several individuals inside became uncooperative and barricaded themselves in the residence. Due to the nature of the call and information indicating firearms may have been inside, police deployed the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
During the operation, distraction devices were used, causing loud bangs that were heard throughout the surrounding neighbourhood.
Police safely removed a total of nine people from the residence and detained them during the operation. The incident was resolved shortly after midnight, and investigators confirmed that no injured persons were located.
The residence remains secured by police as investigators seek a search warrant expected to be executed later today. No arrests have been made at this time.
Police say the investigation is still in its early stages and confirmed that the incident is not connected to the recent extortion-related violence in the Lower Mainland.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department.
