Vancouver- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a nationwide recall for several brands of shelled eggs due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected eggs were sold under the Compliments, Golden Valley, IGA, Foremost, No Name, and Western Family brands. Distribution includes Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and potentially other regions.
The recalled eggs have expiry dates of February 16, February 22, and March 1.
Safety Warning
While no illnesses have been reported so far, the CFIA is urging consumers to take precautionary measures. The affected eggs should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase for a refund.
Health officials warn that salmonella infections can be particularly dangerous for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, with severe cases potentially leading to life-threatening complications or long-term arthritis.
Consumers are advised to check their egg cartons for the brands and expiry dates listed in the recall. For more information, visit the CFIA’s official website.
