VICTORIA, BC – Surrey–North MLA Mandeep Dhaliwal stood in the BC Legislature today to question the provincial government over what he described as ongoing threats and targeted violence against Sikh leaders in Surrey.
“Why are Sikh leaders being targeted in Surrey under this NDP government?” Dhaliwal asked during proceedings.
He referenced the 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot and killed at his place of worship in Surrey, and raised fresh concerns about safety in the community.
“Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar was assassinated at his place of worship in Surrey. Now Moninder Singh, his wife, and their two children face credible threats to their lives,” Dhaliwal said.
The Surrey–North MLA questioned how long Sikh leaders and their families would be left to live in fear, calling for stronger protections, greater transparency, and accountability from the provincial government.
“How much longer will Sikh leaders be forced to live in fear while this government fails to provide protection, transparency, and accountability?” he asked.
Dhaliwal added that families are living under constant threat and said ongoing extortion and intimidation have left members of the Sikh community feeling vulnerable.
“This is a failure of leadership, and urgent action is long overdue,” he stated.
He concluded by emphasizing that Surrey residents and the broader Sikh community deserve safety, security, and accountability without delay.
