CHANDIGARH, Punjab (August 2, 2026) — The Punjab Government has invited the 5 Rivers Heart Association to establish a state-of-the-art hospital and medical school in Punjab, a major initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare services and medical education in the state.

The proposed project is being considered for one of three locations—Moga, Gurdaspur, or Nawanshahr. A delegation from the 5 Rivers Heart Association will visit the three cities next week to evaluate the proposed sites before selecting the final location.

Phase 1 of the project will include a 220-bed multi-specialty hospital and a medical school, designed to expand access to advanced healthcare while training future physicians and healthcare professionals.

The initiative is being led by Dr. Swaiman Singh, a globally renowned interventional advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist, MD, FACC (USA). Dr. Singh is also widely recognized for his public support and advocacy during the 2020–2021 farmers’ protest at Delhi’s borders, where he became a prominent voice within sections of the movement and participated in humanitarian and advocacy efforts.

The proposed hospital and medical school are expected to enhance access to specialized medical care, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Punjab’s healthcare infrastructure through world-class clinical services, medical education, and research.

The final project location and implementation timeline are expected to be announced following the site evaluation by the 5 Rivers Heart Association delegation next week.
