
Mississauga: Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has provided an update in connection with a multi-vehicle collision, which took place in Whitby on Highway 401. Four people, including an infant, were killed and two others were injured.
The SIU said a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, both visiting from India, were killed in the collision.
Their 3-month-old grandson was pronounced dead.
The investigating agency said in the parents of the infant (33-year-old father and 27-year-old mother, who were travelling in the same vehicle, Nissan Sentra, were taken to hospital.
The cargo van initially being investigated by police and involved in the collision and the 21-year-old male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 38-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital.
The SIU said seven investigators, one forensic investigator and one collision reconstructionist continue to investigate the case.
